Methodology
Journals
For the TiU BE Top we currently identified 208 journals (add link) in the fields of Economics, Econometrics, Finance, Accounting, Strategy & Organization, Management, Marketing, Information Management and Operations Research.
Standard rankings
We provide standard worldwide rankings based on a subset of the journals in the database, and their publications of the last 5 years. The subset is based on the top core and top journals identified by the different departments of the Tilburg School of Economics and Management and is by no means meant to serve as the only truth. For the standard rankings, each journal has a weight of 1.0 points, meaning that if an institution was referred to through an affiliated author, the institution receives 1.0 point.
If you click on a university in the ranking, you will see a list of all publications attributed to that university, in the specified time period.
Individual rankings
In addition to the standard rankings, it is recommended to create customized rankings or analyses using the ‘Sandbox’. You can select your own time frame, select the journals you want to include and choose the weight of the journals (standard, journal impact factor or article influence score).
Source
The source of the information used in this ranking is the ISI Web of Knowledge.
Document types included
In this ranking only the document types 'article' and 'proceedings paper' (designated by Web of Knowledge) have been counted.
Journal weights
All of the journals in the database have a standard weight of 1.0. But using the sandbox you can also choose to select the Journal Impact Factor or Article Influence Score. With the last two options the database uses the metrics of the journal(s) for the year(s) you have selected.
Period covered
The standard ranking covers a 5-year period.
Multiple authors
Authors' affiliations are those recorded at the time of the publication of the paper, not their current affiliation. There is no adjustment made for multiple authors. However, in the event where one or more authors are from the same institute, this institute has only been counted once in Web of Knowledge, and there are therefore no double points awarded to that institution.
Notes
In every ranking, choices must be made when establishing the rules of the game, and therefore there will be points of criticism in every ranking. For example, we do not correct for the size of the institutes. Doing so would quickly lead to large practical problems.
